Our Past, Present, and Future ...

Out of the ashes of the Ancien Regime of 25mm miniature wargaming a revolutionary force of three Pro Counsuls formed a 6mm Napoleonic Wargame Society in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in the late nineteen seventies. Their objectives were to simulate large scale Napoleonic battles on a reasonable sized table by using figures that were scale practical, economical, easy to paint and durable.

They desired to be able to start and finish complete battles in one meeting using a simple rule system that was easy to learn and encouraged historical tactics. Most importantly for members to share in a common interest of Napoleonic history, miniature wargaming, and building friendships that have now lasted decades and still continue to grow.

Initially, we started painting Heroics & Ros 6mm Napoleonic figures, but gradually found that figures produced by Irregular Miniatures painted up nicely and held up better owing to their "sturdy" design. Presently, at least three-quarters of the collection consists of 6mm Irregular Miniatures. Generally, we have focused on the Continental participants of the period, representing forces from France, Poland, Italy, Naples, Confederation of the Rhine (including Bavaria and Saxony), Austria, Russia, and Prussia. Some discussion to expand to the Iberian Peninsula (adding British, Portuguese, and Spanish forces) as well as representative forces of the Ottoman Empire (eg. Janissaries, Sipahi, Yoruks, Djellis, Suvarileri, etc.).

Drawing on our vast collection of over 30,000 figures we generally hold our games on the last Sunday of the month recreating historical battles, campaigns and some purely fictional encounters. We have completed the 1805 Danube Campaign, the Italian Campaign of 1796-97, and are currently in the midst of the 1806 Prussian Campaign. The First Counsul has a "War Room" in his home on the Scarborough/Pickering border. Alternate Sundays are also open at another member's house in Pickering for 15mm gaming.

Although the Society has less than a dozen regular members it has now lasted longer then the Napoleonic era itself. Time has brought experience and extensive research. This allows the players to enjoy games that are not only historical and realistic but also entertaining and challenging. No membership fees are collected and we are actively seeking recruits who want to have an entertaining day using historical tactics and good gamesmanship in the company of gentlemen. Those who want to win at all cost and spoil the friendly atmosphere that we have need not contact us.
